The Library & Information Centre is housed in    the Administrative Block of BIET & having two floors including ground floor with a two mezzanine floors, measuring an area of 2850 Sq.m. The Library has separate Borrowing & Reference sections. There are 17 staff members including Librarian are working in the library.

To cater the needs of the staff and students and to have easy access to the library, the books have been classified using Dewey Decimal Classification system and Catalogued on the basis of Anglo American Cataloguing Requirement.

Presently Library is equipped with 37782 volumes of Books, Covering  all Branches of Engineering , Basic science & General readings. It has adopted open access system and maintains Author, Title Catalogue to provide multiple access to the stack. It caters to the needs of students, Faculty, Research Scholars etc,.

Library Resources includes a prescribed text books, Recommended Books, Reference Books like Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, Hand Books, Data books etc,. It also has a good collection of ISI Specifications, Project reports & Dissertations, Doctoral Thesis & proceedings of Conference  & monographs.

Journal:

 

Library is Subscribing to over 212 Technical journals covering all the Engineering Branches & Basic Science Department (Both Indian &  Foreign) and about 15 general magazines, 11 News papers. The library also maintains a collection of back volumes.

Borrowing section:

Students can borrow two books at a time and can retain them for a fortnight. The books have to be returned before due date failing which overdue charges are levied. Teaching Faculty are given 05 books & there is no due date for them . The borrowing section is being kept open from     9 A.M  To 5.30 P.M.

Book Bank facility like SC/ST, ST are being provided for the benefit of deserving candidates with the assistance of social welfare Department, Government of Karanataka. The concerned students can keep these books for one semester. Total number of Books for SC/ST is 2869.  

Reference Section:

The Reference section is well equipped and having the  facility for 600 readers to sit & make reference at a time. It consists of UG  Section, PG section and self  reading Room. The reference section works from 9 AM To 9 PM  in two shifts . Reference Section consists of Texts Books, Dissertation, Doctoral Thesis, ISI Specifications, Examination materials etc,. The Xeroxing facility has been provided for the benefit of the  readers.

The library automation was initiated in the year 2001 and created the database, Now the library is completely automated by using the Easylib Software Package. . It has installed a Pentium server with additional 16 computers connected to Campus network through fiber optics cable. The digital library has been set up for internet, DELNET Database , CD Rom search and for the online access of information .
