Kassal. S. Vittal has been associated with the prestigious “Bapuji Educational Association”, since 1964 in the capacity of Governing Council Member, Joint Secretary, Vice-President and at present President of the Association.

Elected as Hon. Secretary to Davangere Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the year 1962, and actively associated in the all-round progress of the Chamber and ably serving the caused of Trade, Commerce and Industry and serving as President from the year 1997.

 Shri Shamanur S. Mallikarjun served as Hon’ble Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports during 2000-2004. A young and popular politician and industrialist.  Mr. Mallikarjun has been successfully working for the welfare of the general public, particularly the downtrodden and economically weaker sections of the society.  This has been possible due to his inbuilt dedication to social service from his childhood.
Mr. S.S. Mallikarjun is a graduate in Commerce from Mysore University.

Mr. S.S. Mallikarjun, himself being a sportsman, loves the game of cricket and shuttle badminton.  His penchant towards sports is the reason why he was selected as Vice-President of the Karnataka State Olympic Association. He has rendered meritorious services in this post.  Apart from this, he is serving as Joint Secretary of Bapuji Educational Association. He served as a Syndicate Member of Kuvempu University. He has also served as a Senate Member in the Rajiv Gandhi Health University.
 

Under his leadership 33rd National women sport meet was conducted in Davangere in the year 2000. First time in Davangere A.T.P. Tournament was conducted  by constructing 4 international standard synthetic courts during 2003. He rejuvenated the swimming pool a long felt desire of the locals to have a full-pledged swimming pool during his resume as a minister in Davangere during 2002.

His meritorious contribution for the weaker section is the construction of 21,491 Ashrya Houses in Davangere district by this work he is probably  No. 1 minister who has achieved this  target in our country in a record time of 3 years.

He as district minister managed successfully the severe drought situation faced by the district for consecutive 3 years during 2000-2003.

• Secured First Rank for the Mechanical Engineering Department in M. Tech. at I.I.T. Madras in 1978 and was awarded a Medal and Institute Merit Prize.
• Recipient of N.R.D.C (National Research Development Corporation) Invention Award in August 1987 for the invention "Spiral Grooving of the sides of the grinding wheel for reduction of corner wear", Shared a cash award of Rs. 25,000/- with Dr.V. Radhakrishnan, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, I.I.T, Madras.
• Was awarded a Silver Medal for the same work in December 1987 at the International Exhibition of "Ideas, Inventions and Novelties" organized by IENA at Nuremberg, West Germany, in which over 200 exhibits from 10 countries were displayed.
• Was awarded "Sadhana Puraskar Award" by Kuvempu University in Dec.,2004 for outstanding contribution to the University in academics.

Career Highlights:

• A paper entitled "A method of reducing the corner wear in cylindrical plunge grinding", originally published by Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Great Britain, has been included in "Machining Source Book", a collection of outstanding articles from technical literature, and published by American Society of Metals International. U.S.A.
• Published 55 papers in National and International Journals. Also registered two patents through I.I.T., Madras.
• M/S. Carborundum Universal, Madras. a leading Multi-national grinding wheel manufacturing firm, has acquired the patent licensing of "Spiral Grooved Wheels".
• Attended Post-Doctoral re-invitation programme at I.I.T., Madras, during July -  October, 1989.
• Has been guiding undergraduate projects regularly since 1970, and handling M.Tech. classes and guiding projects since 1989. Guided 40 M.Tech. projects. Guided four Ph.Ds and guiding three more.
• Actively involved in sending proposals to AICTE for sanction under MODROB, TAPTEC and R & D SCHEMES.
• Co-ordinator for the Accreditation process at University B.D.T College of Engineering in 2002.
• Convener for preparing the proposal for world bank assistance under TEQIP through which University B.D.T College of Engg. got about 11crores in 2004.
• Honored by Karnatak Nataka Academy for contribution in the Field of Drama, 5th May 2006.
