About the department
The Master of Computer Applications was established in 1992 with an initial intake of 30. With demand from the software industry the intake has since risen to 120. From the 2020 admissions the course runs two years across four semesters, and the curriculum aims to cover a wide spectrum of practice and knowledge in computing, in the latest and emerging technologies, with input and active support from industry experts and a strong alumni body.
The faculty are diverse, highly qualified and experienced, with doctorates across various specialisations, and the teaching pairs quality education with research experience and hands-on work. The department's laboratories are well equipped with IT facilities. More than 1,300 students have graduated from the department so far and are placed in national and multinational companies; the department takes as its aim the production of software engineers whose skills stand comparison with the best.

- 01To be successful in identifying, understanding, formulating, analyzing and solving variety of problems in the field of Computer Applications.
- 02To provide students various computing skills like the analysis, design and development of innovative software products to meet the industry needs.
- 03To motivate students to pursue lifelong learning and to do Collaborative research and computing professional scientists.
- 04To motivate students to communicate and function ethically, effectively in teams in multidisciplinary fields within the global, societal and environment context.
Programme Specific Outcomes(PSO)
- 01Analyse, design, develop and optimize solutions in C++, Unix and Shell Programming, DBMS, JAVA, Dot Net platforms and Advanced Web Technologies.
- 02Apply concepts in core areas of computer science - Data structures, Database management systems, operating systems, computer Architecture and software engineering to solve technical issues.
Head of department

Associate Professor and Head of Master of Computer Applications, with 16 years of teaching and nine of research, and a doctorate from Kuvempu University in 2019. His research covers image processing, artificial intelligence, the internet of things, big data, deep learning and data science, with 17 papers in refereed journals. He has reviewed for IEEE conferences and the JNNCE Journal of Engineering & Management, was a VTU board of examiners member in 2021-22, and is secretary of the BIET Co-operative Society. A life member of ISTE.
