About the department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BIET, established in 1984, is the institute's largest computing department with an approved intake of 510 students. Recognized as a VTU Research Centre, the department is supported by a dedicated team of 42 experienced faculty members, including 17 doctoral-qualified faculty, 15 faculty members pursuing their Ph.D., and the remaining M.Tech.-qualified faculty, along with experienced technical staff and state-of-the-art laboratories.
The department maintains strong industry and alumni engagement through internships, expert talks, mentorship programs, hackathons, collaborative projects, placement initiatives, and alumni interactions, providing students with valuable industry exposure while fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, research, and professional excellence.

- 01To apply skills acquired in the discipline of Computer Science and Engineering for solving societal and industrial problems with apt technology intervention.
- 02To continue their career in industry/academia or to pursue higher studies and research.
- 03To become successful entrepreneurs, innovators to design and develop software products and services that meets the societal, technical and business challenges.

- 01Analyze and develop solutions for problems that are complex in nature by applying the knowledge acquired from the core subjects of this program.
- 02To develop Secure, Scalable, Resilient and distributed applications for industry and societal requirements.
- 03To learn and apply the concepts and construct of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Deep learning, Big Data Analytics, IoT, Cloud Computing, etc for any real time problems.
Head of department

Dean, Training & Placement at BIET, alongside heading the department. BE from Mysore University (1992), M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from NITK Surathkal (2002) and a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from VTU, Belagavi (2013). Over 31 years of teaching and 23 years of research experience, mentoring students at UG, PG and doctoral level. Her research interests span artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, data analytics, cloud computing, the semantic web and mobile agents, with over 35 published papers, four patents filed and eight scholars guided to PhD completion at VTU. She has secured a Rs 40 lakh grant under the VGST K-FIST L2 scheme and facilitated Rs 9 lakh in NAIN funding for three student innovation projects, and has held academic leadership roles including Dean (IT), VTU research supervisor, VTU BOE chairman and member, LIC member, and single point of contact for industry collaborations.
