About the department

Mechanical Engineering is one of BIET's founding departments, teaching since 1979 at an intake raised from 60 to 120 on demand from industry and research institutes. It houses a research centre and a product development cell, is affiliated to VTU and approved by the Institution of Engineers (India), and has been accredited three times by the National Board of Accreditation.

State and central agencies - AICTE, DST, UGC, DBT, ICSSR, VGST, KSCST and KSBDB among them - have funded work here to Rs 197.45 lakh. Thirteen scholars have been awarded doctorates by VTU and thirteen more are registered, working on composites, alternative fuels, electronic engine management, fracture mechanics and precision engineering. As one of the largest and oldest departments, its workshops also serve the B.E., M.Tech and PhD work of other departments, and its graduates go into industry and into research institutions of international standing.

Professor

Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering, with 26 years of teaching. BE from BIET (1991) and a Master's in thermal power engineering from PDACE Gulbarga (1997), with a VTU doctorate in 2012. He was PG coordinator for M.Tech (TPE) from 2017 to 2020 and became Professor in 2019. He guides three doctoral students, has seen three through under VTU, and has published 58 research articles. A life member of ISTE and a member of the Institution of Engineers, he has been warden of the BIET boys' hostel since 2014.
