About the department

Textile Technology is an engineering discipline that deals with the science, technology, and innovation. The branch emphasizes sustainable practices, advanced materials, research, and modern manufacturing technologies, preparing students for diverse career opportunities. Department established in 1981 and has a strong legacy of academic excellence, research, and industry engagement. The department has been accredited by NBA three times and is recognized as a VTU Research Centre. To date, 15 research scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degrees, while more than 10 scholars are currently pursuing their Ph.D. The department consistently produces 4 to 6 university rank holders every year and has maintained a record of 100% placements annually. With a strong focus on research and development, the department has secured research funding exceeding ₹2 crore, demonstrating its commitment to innovation, quality education, and technological advancement.

The Indian textile industry is heading towards radical change, and much of the responsibility for that falls to the technical institutions that train its technocrats. The Department of Textile Technology at BIET works towards technical excellence in textile education with that in view. The department sets out to offer both a serious textile education and a campus that draws students from across the country, and takes as its philosophy that work is worship. Its students aim at excellence, efficiency and effectiveness in what they take on, and the department sees its task as sowing that work culture and then carefully nurturing it in those who graduate from here.

Professor & HOD

B.Tech in textile technology from GSKSJTI Bangalore in 1990, taking second rank, a Master's from IIT Delhi in 1993 and a VTU doctorate in 2019. He taught at Rural Engineering College Hulkoti from 1993 and joined BIET in 1995, becoming Professor and Head in 2021. He has published in national and international journals and has worked as project assistant and coordinator on several sponsored research projects.

She obtained her Bachelor of Technology in Textile Engineering from Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology, Davangere affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Belgaum, Karnataka in the Year – 2007. Presently working as Manager – Marketing, in Shahi Exports Private Limited, Bangalore, Karnataka from July - 2007 to Till Date. With over 12 years of total experience in the field of garment production and merchandising with a leading garments manufacturer, managing various product categories (including Outer Wear) for International Buyers (Clients). She is Proficient in handling activities right from order inquiry stage to shipment execution and sailing through all the process. Conversant with Buyer, production team, suppliers and internal support teams to bring out the seamless execution. She also gained significant exposure of working on various products which include products like Shirts, Bottoms and outerwear like fleece, soft shell, Insulated jackets, seam sealed jackets and double jackets. An effective communicator with good presentation, interpersonal and leaderships kills. She has additional qualities such as managing product safety compliance, ensuring the Testing requirements are as per the Buyer Norms, managing price & delivery terms with suppliers, identification and allocation of subcontracting for Printing, Quilting, and Fringing processes. She is responsible for training team members on Technical aspects, ERP (CRM, Infor M3) and also responsible for induction of new joinees into Marketing department.
